Rescue Me ID: 14-10-21-00013Megan (female)

Westie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We often wonder what is running through people's minds when they make a decision to dump a wonderful and loving dog because she's become inconvenient...where is their heart?? Such are our thoughts with Megan...and it's only great luck and a few loving humans who changed her destiny. Megan was dumped in a high-kill shelter when she turned 1 and was no longer puppy-cute and novel Just in time, a compassionate rescuer happened along the way and took pity on this adorable Westie mix. To our joy, Megan was meant to survive her ordeal and get rescued. She was immediately brought to be vetted and temperament tested and passed all with flying ... (Read More)colors. She is now safely in her foster home...being nurtured with love and hugs while being taught skills so important in the development of any dog. Megan is so over-the-top beautiful and loving - her photos absolutely don't do her justice! She tries so hard but we need to be reminded that she's a young girl...just about 9 - 12 months old and approximately 14 lbs (perfect hiking size)... who needs to be shown the way by a patient and loving human who understands the boundaries necessary for any dog. Megan is a willing student...with frequent socialization with both dogs and humans, she will continue along the path of a loving and well-adjusted adult dog. Positive reinforcement group training class is a great tool for family bonding as well as developing great behavior when out in the community. We are searching for an involved family for Megan. She would love nothing more than being with her people...on their lap is a great secure spot for her. It will be dog-lovers who choose to have their dog involved in their life that would be perfect for this sweet pup. We don't want Megan to be left behind while her people spend long hours at work or other activities. She's very portable at 14 lbs and would be a great companion for walks, riding shotgun in the car, or visiting with dog-friendly friends. Megan would be overjoyed with coming along with her favorite people....errands, adventures or just lap-time speaks to Megan. She just naturally has a sweet temperament (while initially a bit shy) that is perfect for a family with older children (12+) and other gentle, like-sized dogs. Megan would also do very well as an only dog...she doesn't require that relationship to be happy. She isn't happy when puppies climb on her but does very well with dogs who are just a bit older. Megan would also be great with dog-crazy retirees...she is so positive and affectionate that a relationship with her is very easy - she really wants to please and be a devoted best friend. The Texas shelter labeled Megan a Norfolk Terrier mix. Several vets that Megan has seen since, however, guessed her breeds as a Westie/Norfolk mix. We tend to agree with the vets and can see both breeds in this sweet companion. Megan is a non-shedding pup and will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep her stunning coat healthy and matt-free. Megan is not suggested for those with very severe allergy concerns. Megan will be arriving on transport in Denver on 10/24. If interested in this sweet girl who is full of love and personality, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Westie in Colorado
Westie Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The West Highland White Terrier, or Westie, is a spirited little white dog. Westies are very sociable, good with children, and can be socialized to get along with other pets. Male Westies may not get along well with other males, and Westies may chase cats. This breed can live in an apartment if it gets enough exercise.
