The very first thing that Cosmo the Westie/Schnauzer mix wants to make clear is that he's a love and so very beautiful. In this photo, you're not aware of the striking silver streaks that run through his gorgeous coat - with grooming, care and great nutrition, Cosmo's coat will show its gorgeous colors . Everything is new to Cosmo...his adorable little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, Cosmo is in your lap or next to you on the couch. He's so happy there because his human relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Cosmo comes ... (Read More)from a very tough and challenging shelter. As a result of unkind handling and harsh conditions, Cosmo is initially a bit shy. Once he's assured that all is well, he'll snuggle close and share all the love that lives inside of him. This 9 - 12 month old, 11 lb Westie mix truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Cosmo was identified by shelter personnel as a sweet and engaging guy who will be a gift to a family that loves dogs. Cosmo is such a people dog...he loves older kids (hasn't been tested with children under 10) but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. We envision Cosmo with an active retired couple or individual or a family with older kids who want an adorable and engaging dog as a family member and best companion. He will be a lap dog extraordinaire as well as a fun and playful guy who enjoys outdoor play and adventures. Cosmo will be so excited to spend his days in the company of his favorite people. Being a Terrier/Schnauzer mix, Cosmo loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes..Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. Cosmo would love the challenge of training and is so smart and wanting to please, he would excel. Cosmo would also be overjoyed to hike along gorgeous Colorado paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. Cosmo can have just a moment of insecurity from the turmoil that has been in his life...a guardian who is present and full of good intention can readily get this great guy past these feelings and let him know he is loved and won't be abandoned. His nature is to be very joyful and in moments his silly and fun nature takes over. Cosmo appears to be a non-shedding dog (although it's difficult to tell until his sad shelter coat grows out). He will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free. We've requested that Cosmo be neutered prior to his arrival in Colorado. Since Kansas shelters have very limited access to vets and funding...this isn't always possible. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Cosmo's neuter and microchip after his arrival on transport if our Denver vet is used. Cosmo will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Tuesday 1024/17. Applications are currently being accepted for this sweet and devoted best friend and can be found at If interested, please fill out and return to or fax to 303-443-7730. (Less)
