Rescue Me ID: 15-05-20-00513Little Man (male)
Little Man is a 15 week old Terrier poodle mix. Little Man was dumped at a shelter in Houston Texas with his mom and his brother. They all three had such bad flees that they had lost almost all of their fur. When we saw them just shaking in the small pen at the shelter we knew we had to help them. We had them vetted, and transported to CO when they will get the opportunity to start a new life with a family that truly loves them. Little Man and his brother are now so much healthier and their fur it really growing back! They are such happy little guys now. Little Man loves to play with his foster brother and sister (terrier and a lab) and loves to snuggle up next to the cat when it is time for a nap. When the foster mom is just hanging out, Little Man's favorite place to be in right next to her curled up in a blanket, or even on her lap if it's okay. Little man would do great in a home with other animals, since he is a terrier puppy he does have a good amount of energy and loves to wear himself out with the other animals in the house. He would also make a great running/walking/hiking companion! If you are interested in Little Man, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will send you an application! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-12-00554Charlie (male)
Charlie is a neutered 10 year old, 16 pound white terrier mix. Charlie is a people pleaser who went thru the prison training system many years ago. While most of his skills have not been kept up, Charlie does listen well, and could probably be trained to be a perfect gentleman. Although Charlie might be a little big for a lapdog, he will try now and again to cuddle up. He likes to knead his bedding like a cat before going to sleep. He doesn't go for walks except out to potty, basically a house dog at this time. Charlie did live with another small dog and 2 cats before coming to Safe Place. This is one nice little fella who is looking for a new calm environment. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-05-11-00016Pearl (female)
There is no girl on earth that can be a more loving, devoted and just generally greater dog than Pearl. At about 5.5 years old (such a great age...old enough to be done with babyish behavior and young enough to have many active years ahead) Pearl received one of the best temperament reports ever. Her current Pueblo foster mom said it the best: Pearl's lifelong mom initially got her because she stood out from the other dogs...she has this wisdom about her. Now, sadly, Pearl's person is going into assisted living and can't bring Pearl along. Farfel's rescuer was contacted and I, as her foster, went over to introduce myself to Pearl. I sat down amongst the dogs and almost immediately Pearl was in my lap...not frenetically...but super-quiet and so calm! Pearl looked up with those amazing eyes that told a thousand stories and I was completely in love! I knew Farfel's had to find the MOST special home for this gentle spirit! At just about 5.5 years old and 12 lbs, Pearl is everything a family could possibly want in any dog. Our first night together, she took her place on my bed...not intrusively but so respectfully. It was as if she was considering my comfort before her own. In the morning, there was no morning agitation or barking...Pearl is so low-key (expecially compared to my 3 crazy dogs) that she just quietly (no barking...yay) followed me to the yard...and then inside for breakfast. She was so wonderful with the other dogs (she definitely stood out as the mellowest and most sensible of the 4) and the insane activity of the 3 kids didn't seem to bother her at all. As a matter of fact, the one thing that her long-term mom asked before relinquishing Pearl was that she get placed in a family with children...she absolutely loves them and is a sweet and loyal best friend! Pearl would never consider having an accident in the house...way beneath her dignity! She's so respectful of her home and her family's possessions that it's wonderful. Pearl really enjoys her morning and evening long walks - once again she's always perfectly friendly and very easy to manage. I had one of my mellowest walks ever today. There are never any worries about aggression toward other dogs and only a wagging tail for everyone along the route. Finally I went to work in my home office...Pearl curled up on my lap with a smile on her adorable face. As far as Pearl's breed mix...her mom is sure she's a Westie/Maltese mix and we'll go along with that. She is a non-vocal girl and doesn't have the super high-energy terrier qualities. All we're sure of is that Pearl is pure love. She's an absolute pleasure to have in my home!!' Since Pearl is a non-shedder (and has a beautiful, silky coat) she will require periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep her coat healthy and soft. Pearl is fully vetted/temperament tested to fulfill our commitment to only adopting out healthy, well-adjusted dogs. Pearl will be arriving in Denver in mid- May. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this sweet and cuddly best friend, please fill out and return to email@example.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-22-00284Theo-ADOPTION PENDING (male)
What a sweet and kind Poodle mix our Theo is! At 9 - 12 months old and just about 11 lbs, Theo is an incredibly beautiful guy with a cotton-soft coat with that slight curl that speaks of a Poodle mix. It's so very sad when the guardian of a very young and sensitive dog like Theo doesn't even meet his basic needs. It's so fortunate that Theo is young enough that with love and nurturing, he can blossom into a self-confident and joyous adult dog. The following is the foster report provided by Theo's Texas mom: Theo is as sweet, shy and as docile as they come. Despite all the terrible neglect that he has suffered in his life, he will wag his tail and derive joy from his relationships. Theo doesn't seem to want to play..but with time and trust, he will develop the desire. At this point, Theo is very quiet and hangs out quietly observing all that is going on around him...we feel like he's very intellectual and is figuring out the world. Theo would be the perfect lap dog for an older couple or individual. He will bond like none other and be the most devoted companion imaginable. I think small children would be overwhelming for Theo...plus he's so perfect for retirees - why not use his talents? Theo has been mistreated in his one year of life and it seems like he just wants to heal... eat a lot, then rest a lot, take a stroll and be the greatest lap dog and lovebug ever! Theo loves me (if I must say so myself) and desires to share his time and heart with me. He's so happy to be a foot or lap-warmer while I'm on the computer and will follow me out to work in the garden...he's not pushy but just wants to be close. Theo loves petting SO much as I am sure no one has ever loved on him. He is a quiet and reserved dog...very much like an old soul. But no foster dog has ever been so very LOVING and expressed how grateful they are to be with me...Theo is absolutely one of a kind in his sweetness! I have several cats and 2 small and calm dogs... Theo has been perfect. I think he is even a little afraid of them. I would not place Theo with a high energy or playful dog-he's just too sensitive and people-oriented for that. Theo is anything but vocal and actually hasn't made a sound since I have had him. He expresses himself more with cuddling and soft touches. Theo doesn't like to be crated but baby gates might be good. He needs to be worked with a bit on his housetraining. He's made huge progress and just needs someone who is present and makes the smallest effort with him...he'll definitely succeed under those circumstances. Theo is such a sweetie-pie with all people. I took him to the vet yesterday and he did great with the vet who is a man (some rescues don't care for men). Theo does need lots of TLC as he has been neglected. But again, he's young and resilient and with lots of good food and kind treatment he will blossom and gain self-esteem. For now Theo needs to be in a quiet and very nurturing home. I've grown to love Theo and wish him the best home ever! When Theo was identified with a great temperament, Farfel's spoke up to bring him to safety (and a new forever family) in Colorado. Once he senses that all present are his friends (it may take a few minutes initially), Theo is so warm and friendly that he always hopes every pat and kind word will turn into a lifelong friend. Both people and other dogs are drawn to Theo for his kind attitude and quiet and introspective ways. It is Theo's shy love affair with life and all the hardships that he's suffered along the way that motivates us to put him through Heartworm treatments..his precious life deserves to be saved! Theo has tested HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Rescued Pets Movement of Houston and Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet crate time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives. We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Theo as he becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails quiet time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay all vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as he grows healthily heartworm-free. Theo appears to be a non-shedding guy - once he loses his dull shelter coat, it will be replaced by wavy and flowing hair that will be cotton-soft and shining. Theo will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his stunning coat healthy and matt-free . Theo will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 4/24/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If you're interested in this kind and devoted companion, please fill out and return to firstname.lastname@example.org or fax to 303-443-7730. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-04-22-00015Carl (male)
The Westie/Cairn mix is a perfect combo for those with who are searching for an extremely smart and loyal family dog. Of utmost importance...they're famous for their great temperaments and snuggly ways. Carl is a great representative of his breeds..he's a very trustworthy guy who is very gentle with family members and other family pets. Being a happy-go-lucky and energetic pup, Carl requires a certain amount of exercise...therefore if a hike or even a leisurely walk is the order of the day - count him in! Carl would be so filled with joy to run through the trails and over the streams in the Colorado mountains...and then crash on the couch snuggling close to his favorite humans and canines. Carl is an absolutely adorable and engaging dog who favors the coat and fun personality of the Cairn while taking on the very engaging qualities that make Westies one of the most popular breeds available today. Carl appears to be a non-shedding or very lightly shedding pup and will therefore require periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy and matt-free. As he loses the old hair of his shelter days, Carl's coat will grow in with that wonderful feel of a truly healthy coat and will be far less likely to shed. Carl's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...he makes playmates everywhere he goes. Carl is social and that means everyone he meets ultimately may becomes a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Carl's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through his entire body ending in a smile. And if your lap is available, up Carl goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of his devotion. Carl is such a wonderful being...we think he represents the best qualities of the Terriers. At about 3 - 3.5 years old (such a great age..old enough to have left puppyish ways behind and young enough to have many active years ahead) and 21 lbs, he seems to have left behind the neglect and lack of love that made up his early life. He has become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he shines with his accomplishments. We would like to see Carl in a home that includes him in family time and activities...he's social and would thrive in a family that truly loves him and considers him a very important family member. Carl would be a wonderful companion for retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable pup. Carl doesn't require another dog to be happy...but does enjoy his canine relationships with kind and gentle dogs. Carl will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 4/24. If interested in this kind guy who is full of love and personality, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to email@example.com or fax to 303-443-7730. (Less)

Westie Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The West Highland White Terrier, or Westie, is a spirited little white dog. Westies are very sociable, good with children, and can be socialized to get along with other pets. Male Westies may not get along well with other males, and Westies may chase cats. This breed can live in an apartment if it gets enough exercise.
