Rescue Me ID: 15-03-27-00150Brock (male)

Westie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Brock would be such a perfect companion for anyone who is searching for that loyal and loving lap dog. At about 9 - 18 months old (several opinions have been in that age range) and just about 12 lbs, Brock is a very portable HavaWestie that can be a full-time best friend...accompanying his guardians everywhere a small and wonderful dog is allowed. It's always amazing to us at Farfel's Rescue that these dogs with sweet temperaments...as well as so very cute...end up in precarious situations. Brock was a last-minute save for us...he would have been euthanized in a dismal high-kill shelter if our kind Kansas rescuer hadn't stepped up. But ... (Read More)how could they not have? This little dog is just so awesome with his whole life lying in front of him...a life in which he can bring so much joy to a special family. Brock, as a young guy, is a blank slate waiting to learn about the world. With positive guidance, socialization and group obedience classes, Brock will become a well-behaved and very bonded companion. He is an all-time snuggler and will cuddle his way into any heart! Brock may be a bit shy initially as transport and rehoming is challenging for a young guy...but with love and nurturing, he will absolutely shine We envision Brock with a retired couple or individual...he would be overjoyed with the time he could spend in their company. It's not that Brock is incredibly needy ..he just loves the companionship of his humans who respect him for all his wonderful traits. Brock has successfully been around older kids (12 and 15) but is untested with very young children. We therefore would prefer to keep Brock with older, dog-loving kids who are gentle and understanding that Brock only weighs 12 lbs and needs soft and kind handling. For those family members who enjoy walks and time outside in the beautiful Colorado sunshine..Brock would love nothing more than to share the experience. He is always up for a walk..fascinated by the activity around him. He breathes in the air...so happy to be free of the dismal shelter environment. Then...maybe his favorite part...it's time to end the day with hugs, belly rubs and a warm spot on the bed beside his favorite people. Brock appears to be a non-shedding (or maybe a hair or 2 - we can't quite tell until his poor-nutrition shelter hair grows out) guy and will therefore will require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat cotton-soft and matt-free. We've requested that Brock be neutered and groomed in Kansas. This often doesn't occur due to too many dogs and too few vets and groomers in rural Kansas. If Brock arrives unfixed and matted, Farfel's is happy to cover the costs of neutering/microchipping and grooming if our Denver vet and groomer is used. Brock will be arriving on transport in Denver on Thursday 4/2/15. If interested in this very sweet and fun companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-03-26-00536Cider (male)

Westie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

It's hard to imagine this truly beautiful (inside & out) West Highland terrier mix was in a high-kill shelter in Liberal, Kansas. A compassionate Farfel's rescuer saved Cider's life and nursed his body and spirit back to joy and well-being. It's now getting to the time when Cider is ready to be transported to his new life in Colorado. Although it will be terribly hard for Cider's Kansas foster mom to say goodbye...she knows that he will have a great life. The following is a description of Cider by his foster mom: --Cider is such a sweet guy just waiting to blossom. I've enjoyed watching him learn that the world can be a loving and ... (Read More)positive place. Cider had a hard start - but now he's learning about treats, belly rubs and that he's a very valuable pup! He may very well be initially shy or frightened, but just give him a bit of time and you'll have a new best friend. Cider loves to run and play outside...he has the appropriate amount of energy for a 9-18 mo. old, 14 lb healthy pup. He would do well with a family who is home alot to hike and play with and run freely at the park - he would love that! After he's had exercise and stimulation, he's ready to chill on the couch. Cider loves to snuggle, be petted and has been said to not get overly grumpy about grooming..we'll let you know since he desperately needs a spa day. His potentially gorgeous, non-shedding hair will require care...a periodic grooming and great nutrition would be perfect to keep his coat as beautiful as it can be. Cider appears to be fine with other dogs but appreciates those that are respectful of his smaller size. Cider has been great with my 14 and 15 year old daughters, although I haven't seen him around smaller kids, so that's an unknown. He's excellent with my mom, but might be a bit energetic for a very advanced senior. Cider is a truly smart pup - true to his breeds!! What a gem of a best friend for a family who wants to include a very cute and sweet dog in their life. He has the potential to be a truly exceptional and loyal companion. Farfel's is very excited to participate in finding this special Westie mix his forever family. Since it is difficult to have dogs neutered and groomed in rural Kansas, Farfel's would be happy to cover these costs at our Denver vet and groomer. Cider will be arriving on transport in Denver on 4/2/15. If interested in this sweet guy who is full of love and personality, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com. (Less)
