Rescue Me ID: 15-01-21-00024Callie (female)

Westie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

When Callie's rescuer walked down the aisle of the dismal Texas shelter, she was shocked to see the adorable (and extremely dirty and matted) Callie tucked tightly into a cage...her time was up. Farfel's immediately got a call describing how incredibly cute and sweet this Poodle is..and the need to save her life. We immediately agreed and Callie became a very treasured Farfel's dog. She earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with her great personality and kind and positive attitude toward the world. At about 3 - 3.5 years old and 13 lbs, this very beautiful pup is a blank slate waiting for positive input and guidance to be the ... (Read More)best dog she's capable of being. We'd love to match Callie to a family that will spend lots of time with this very portable girl. She's a perfect size to accompany her family just about anywhere...and would love it. Positive reinforcement group obedience class will not only provide socialization and great skills...but will cement the relationship between Callie and her family. Callie gets lots of attention when she's out and about...she's very engaging (while a bit shy at first) and as sweet as can be. She's also extremely eye-catching...she appears to be a purebred Poodle but we would never swear to it. We just don't see another breed in this beautiful dog. When Callie turns that gentle look in your direction, you can't help but smile at her wise ways. You can see just a bit of a sign that this young pup has had difficult times. But not for her to be negative..a smile and a wag is more Callie's style. It's clear that Callie has left any pain behind. Farfel's Rescue is searching for an adult family (or with older kids 12+) for Callie. It''s not that she doesn't like young kids...we just feel she wouldn't be comfortable with any tail-pulling or awkward carrying. A retired couple or individual would be perfect for this girl. She would thrive on the time and attention that retirees often put into their pets. Callie, once bonded, will be a loyal and positive companion....that makes her very easy to spend time with just enjoying the wonders of life in Colorado. Callie would also enjoy time with dogs of similar size who can be gentle playmates. When you're only 13 lbs, even a very well-adjusted puppy can be intimidated by large, rambunctious dogs. Callie, as you can see in her photo, is in desperate need of grooming. She has a shed-free, cotton-soft coat that requires periodic grooming to keep it healthy and matt-free. Farfel's will be happy to cover the cost of grooming at our rescue groomer if Callie arrives on transport without having had a spa day. Callie will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 1/23/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. Rescue Me ID: 15-01-21-00020Checkers-PENDING (male)

Westie Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

When we are asked about a special rescue pup that is snuggly, sweet and very fun-loving, we can't help but think of Checkers. His smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. Checkers foster was very quick to tell us that he is SO much more handsome than his photo. She said that he does have beautiful and expressive eyes (they can't be seen in his photo but they're there and gorgeous!). Once he has a much-needed grooming, Checkers face will show the adorable features of the Westie and the cottony-soft, hypoallergenic coat of the Poodle. Checker's foster mom shared that they know it's morning when Checker's little head comes under ... (Read More)the blanket...getting closer and closer..and then a huge kiss of love. This curious and really, really smart 18 - 24 month old, 14 lb mix is a truly great companion. There aren't visible signs that Checkers was in a very scary high-kill shelter. His foster mom described this gorgeous boy as perfect! She said the following about Checkers: Checkers is a calm yet playful guy who really doesn't have a single negative trait! He's a lovebug who wants nothing more than to warm your lap and be devoted and SO sweet! He's perfect in the house and has been trustworthy in every situation. He's absolutely great with me, my husband, our 3 kids (from 6 - 15 years old) and our 2 dogs. Checkers is, hands down, just about the most perfect and loving dog I've ever fostered. His lucky family is getting a true gem! We picture Checkers as the best friend to retirees. He'd be so loyal.. and overjoyed to share his love and good will on a daily basis. Checkers would also do well in a family with kids and another dog. He'd love the fun and active lifestyle...a hike or long walk would put Checkers over the top. There's also no question that Checkers would be the most popular guy on the block. He loves to engage and just be his entertaining, adorable self. Even though Checkers is usually up for pretty much any activity, he's never pushy or yappy. Exercise..perhaps long, leisurely walks or hikes along Colorado mountain trails ..and mental stimulation that comes from his time with his humans is important to this guy to keep him happy and well-behaved. it's not that he requires extensive amounts, just enough to keep him healthy and stimulated. This adorable and really humorous Westie/Poodle mix is a non-shedder. Checkers will therefore require periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his stunning coat cottony-soft and matt-free. Checkers will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 1/23/15. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.     Westies are simply Cairns bred for their white coats. Westies come from Argyll, Scotland. The white coat of a Westie helps hunters tell the difference between the dogs and their quarry. Westies originated through an accident of genetics when a Cairn delivered white puppies in its litter.
